The advice in this article comes from years of experience as writing coach and editor as well as writer (working with freelance to publishing house editors). What I have found time and again is that self-publishing or indie-published writers who need an editor often lack the savvy or confidence to find and hire a professional editor with suitable qualifications and one suited to their style and needs. Canadian editors are often listed with Editors Canada, who vet them, just like the AAR vets literary agents who are listed with them. Another way a writer can evaluate a potential editor is through a colleague's referral or known writer testimonials. Either way, once you've done this, you still need to find out if that editor is a good fit with you and your writing.Nina Munteanuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00311070435293186699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9221230898567605964.post-75329896475777212532020-10-16T09:55:40.084-07:002020-10-16T09:55:40.084-07:00Thank you, Jill. I love that the Spanish version of the proverb (by way of Cervantes) says "You'll see the truth when you fry the eggs" (or something like that). What the requirement is really asking for is a list of current books the sales and marketing people can use to plug your book to distributors. If I'm being generous I suppose I might conclude this requirement is a way of making you demonstrate your familiarity with your potential market.

Speaking Gibson, I've just read Agency, his latest. And I was struck by a number of stylistic and content similarities with Karl Schroeder's latest, Stealing Worlds. Don't know that ...It certainly is worth a read. Don't know that I have seen that sociological vs personal argument before, but it make abundant sense. If Trump wasn't handy, the American electorate would have found someone just as bad. And if Trudeau is looking particularly toothless, it's because of the power structure he's forced to work within than anything about him personally. He would have to dismantle that power structure before he could give his supporters what they want, and the fallout from that would destabilize everything and likely plunge the country into depression - which may be necessary to solve our problems, but nobody wants to think about that.Psychedelia Gothique - Dale L. My only quibble might be with your final paragraph. These days we're pretty much all "amateurs" in the sense of not making any money from most of our work. Besides, the word "amateur" shouldn't be used as a synonym for "poorly done." A true amateur is someone who does something for love rather than for money. I am not quite so enthusiastic about your reasons for not writing short fiction, mostly for the reasons Jim has already enumerated. I'm not even sure it has to be a one-or-the-other sort of thing. It did feel good to finish a collection and get it out in the world. But it also made me conscious of how much I want to say and feel I still have to say. It is a tougher market than ever out there - and in many ways, feels like it's no longer my world. I too have found contentment, but mine came with simply getting stuff done. I care less about the reception it gets than simply having done it and have thought many times that if I found out the world was going to end tomorrow, I'd be writing harder, even knowing that no one but me would likely ever read it.
Psychedelia Gothique - Dale L. I've come to a sort of peace with being the writer I am, which feels good.

I just put up "The Diorama" at Curious Fictions, which was in TransVersions #11. If you recall, it had an artist as a main character. I based it a little on my best friend who also is an artist. We talk often about the crossover between writing a story and doing a piece of art. We also were both high school teachers (me in English and him in art), and found that we approached fostering creativity in similar ways.Jim Van Pelthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01810757929814693222noreply@blogger.com
